James C. Erickson has been recognized as one of the foremost lawyer/lobbyists in the State of Minnesota for almost four decades, practicing at the local, state and federal levels of government. Since 1998, he has represented a limited number of major clients through his lobby and consulting firm, Solomon Strategies Group (SSG). As a “virtual” firm, SSG engages and manages additional resources as required to best and fully serve its major client’s needs.
SSG Founding Principal Jim Erickson first worked at the Capitol for the Minnesota State Senate and in the Attorney General’s Office. During his 25-year lawyer/lobbyist career at Larkin Hoffman Daly and Lindgren, Jim created and led the first highly-regarded Governmental Relations practice area at a major Twin Cities law firm. He was one of the original “Super Lawyers” in his specialty when that designation was established by Law and Politics magazine. Erickson also served as President of Larkin Hoffman for five years. Erickson graduated from St. Olaf College, where he was Student Body President, in 1966 with major in Economics. He graduated from University of Minnesota Law School in 1969 and was admitted to the Minnesota Bar. After working in the political process and for the Minnesota State Senate during and after law school, he joined the Minnesota Attorney General’s office. He was recruited by Larkin, Hoffman, Daly & Lindgren, Ltd. in 1972. As Chairman of the Governmental Relations department, he hired and trained many of Minnesota’s leading lawyer/lobbyists, several of whom went on to hold public office. Erickson’s lobbying expertise, reputation and record of accomplishment were instrumental in the growth of Larkin Hoffman to major firm status. In the 80’s, Larkin, Hoffman was known to including the largest and most effective lawyer/lobbyist team at the Capitol. Among the principal clients in his Larkin Hoffman career was the Mall of America, where Erickson led the legislative and financial lobbying team that secured significant public investment in the project.
Jim Erickson served as President of the 85 attorney Larkin, Hoffman firm from 1990 to 1995. In that capacity, he also was a member of the Minnesota Business Partnership, and related business and civic organizations. During his active legal career, he represented many major Minnesota businesses and trade associations at the Legislature and all levels of government. He served as Chairman of the State Capital Law Firm Group, a national organization of the leading lobbying firms in each state, and as outside counsel to the Minnesota North Stars, where he was an Alternate Governor of the National Hockey League. |
